History

The Eighth Realm's history is marked with strife and conflict of sources both magical and non-magical, Sorceresses of Hyne's own descent often becoming the centerpiece of conflicts known historically as Sorceress Wars. Over two millennia worth of fighting has occurred in the mortal plane of Gaia, with the most recent of these events almost directly leading to the destruction of an entire civilization - that of the advanced society of Centra. In recent times, the world appeared to have settled down, only for strife to seek out the world again with the arrival of the future Sorceress Ultimecia, who was eventually sought out through time itself and killed by Squall Leonhart and his comrades. Since then, the world has been relatively peaceful...perhaps only in anticipation of the next conflict to come.

Government

The Eighth Realm has a variety of governmental types, all with their own flaws and benefits.

Main Article: Dollet Dukedom

A coastal nation with only a few towns and its capital, east of the Galbadian Republic. This country is home to the artisans and the philosophers. A wealthy nation, it has a heavy presence on the seas with its focus on maritime and inland trading. This trade has made not only the government very wealthy, but has also allowed that same government to regulate a system to allow the private sector to also become wealthy in these lines of business.

The country's military, while not as strong as other countries, is a highly trained force, with leaders in command who have themselves have years of experience. Its might comes from its Highland Wolf Navy which has an impressive amount of ships which can easily defend the country from her enemies on the great seas.

In recent times, the country has negotiated a long standing alliance with the Garden Network, which has proven useful for both sides.

The Dukedom is currently officiated by Duke Edwin Haroldington.

Galbadian Republic

Main Article: Galbadian Republic

In previous years, the Galbadian Republic was set up in theory as a republic, with its capital city being Galbadia City. However, its previous President, Vinzer Deling II was given the position after his father was assassinated by his ally, Sorceress Edea Kramer. The two ruled the Republic with an iron fist, neither allowing any question of the authority that they held, nor allowed any brokerage in any decisions they would make. Thusly, by its citizens, it was often considered a military dictatorship, as the military would enforce the President's will with a vengeance.

Currently, the Republic is in a state of transition, moving towards a true electoral republic. However, in the interim, the Republic is overseen by General Hiram Caraway and four other high ranking military officials.

Timber

As an acquired province of the Galbadia Republic, large decisions for Timber are assigned to an adviser to the President of Galbadia, as they may affect the Republic as a whole. For the day to day decisions that are required for running a city like Timber, however, there is a superintendent assigned to oversee the industrial town.

Winhill's current superintendent is Clayton Pembleton.

Winhill

Winhill is the second acquired province of the Galbadian Republic. Its distance keeps it from much of the conflict of the capital in the past, however, much like Timber, it is required to make weekly reports as to the province's status. There is a Mayor who is elected by the town, and the Mayor reports to one of the many presidential advisers in Galbadia City.

Winhill's current mayor is Arletta Bergsman.

Planes

The Eighth Realm has a number of planes inhabited by a variety of races - some mortal, others akin to gods and goddesses from folklore, and still others set in positions as leaders of the planes themselves. Each plane is different and diverse, but only Planeswalkers will typically ever see all the planes in their glory.

Mortal Plane

Main Article: Mortal Plane

The mortal plane is the primary plane of the Eighth Realm, the habitat of Hume and Vayash Moru beings. It is similar to other life-housing planets in other realms, such as Erana of the Third Realm, and is watched over by the higher planes, who share a pact of non-interference except in dire times.

Ethereal Plane

Main Article: Ethereal Plane

The Ethereal Plane is the home of the cerebral and otherworldly, home to the Malakh and Erudite races, as well as a single Ancient - Freya Vanadis, the Creator and leader of the plane itself. It serves as a focal point for magic in the mortal plane, as well as an equal and opposite to the Nether Plane.

Nether Plane

Main Article: Nether Plane

The Nether Plane is home to the demonic and the instinct-driven beings, as well as a single Ancient - Katanas DeValle, the Overlord and leader of the plane itself. It serves as an equal and opposite to the Ethereal Plane.

Soul Plane

Main Article: Soul Plane

Soul Plane is a haven for souls after death, be they from the mortal, Ethereal, or Nether Planes. It is a neutral plane, for all intents and purposes, and serves also as a replenishing point for Ethereal and Nether beings. It is the home of the Quincy race, and is presided over by an Ancient being - the Lord Sovereign Byakuya Kuchiki.

Races

The Eighth Realm contains a variety of races across its planes, both lower and higher. Each plane harbors around the same number of races, normally only one or two.

Hume

Main Article: Hume

Hume are a race of humanoid beings living on the mortal plane of the Eighth Realm. They are adaptable and creative, thriving in a variety of places and environments throughout the plane.

Vayash Moru

Main Article: Vayash Moru

Vayash Moru, or "vampires" in more colloquial terms, are a race of beings who have been possessed by exceptionally powerful Daiesthai or Arrancar. Typically, these beings were originally Hume, but there is no evidence that rules out other beings having been turned into Vayash Moru before.

Quincy

Main Article: Quincy

Quincy are a race of higher beings residing in the Soul Plane, representing the beings that other races become after death. They are spiritually keen and powerful, but are the weakest race of beings on the higher planes.

Malakh

Main Article: Malakh

Malakh are a race of Ethereal beings who once inhabited the Ethereal Plane, a formerly-numerous race which was nearly eradicated during the last war within the Plane. They are powerful beings with knowledge of many magical talents; only a few remain alive in the present day.

Daiesthai

Main Article: Daiesthai

Daiesthai are a race of demonic beings inhabiting the Nether Plane, a race built upon warfare and treachery. Often, these beings are little more than beasts, but many show great intelligence and cunning on the level of many other races as they age and grow more powerful.

Erudite

Main Article: Erudite

Erudite are another race of beings who reside on the Ethereal Plane, a numerically-fewer but more powerful race before the last Ethereal war. The Ethereal Plane is almost solely inhabited by these beings now, and they are powerful warriors in both physical and magical combat.
