The Clouded Horizons Attribute Development Utility (CHADU) is a statistic calculation utility designed to quickly and easily calculate character attributes in the Clouded Horizons series' Eighth Realm. The project is headed by lead programmer Kari Inihara and lead designer Rubedo Alaberti.

History

The application idea came about when Ben wanted an even simpler way to calculate character stats rather than the Excel 2007 spreadsheet designed by Darius. The application began officially on October 17, 2007, and was released in its final version on December 14th, 2008. It is now being regularly updated as part of a sweeping bug-fixing campaign. It was written using the Visual Basic coding language.

Currently, the Flex Designs team is working on designing the second version of the calculator, plans for which include the following functions:

  • Calculate and display character and class statistics in simulated real-time, as well as character background information, personal data, and character images, for characters within each realm of the Clouded Horizons series.
  • Modify character statistics manually regardless of equipment and class choices from a separate Modifiers page.
  • Save character data to data files, standard text files, and wiki-ready text files.
  • Load character data from data files, complete with equipment and other modifiers.
  • Create, save, and load custom equipment for up to 11 different item slots, as well as custom classes, Limit Breaks, and more.

Design

  • Note: All information below is specific to the Eighth Realm, as that is the only realm supported by the current version of the CHADU.

Featuring a simple graphical user interface (GUI), the CHADU allows the user to select or type in the class(es) they wish to calculate. Displayed statistics scale with both the Character Level and the Class Level. As the class(es) grow in power, class traits take effect; these traits usually increase select attributes at certain levels. For more information on the class system, see the Class System Overview.

The design fields include a |character race, a main class, and a support class field. In addition, the character level and main class level can be modified - the support class level will always be capped to half of the main class level.

Key Features

The features of the CHADU are as follows:

  • Can calculate character attributes, combat affinities, proficiencies, and threat rankings with one click.
  • Easy-to-use GUI that provides simple explanations of all fields.
  • The ability to export calculated attributes to a pre-formatted .rtf or .htm document, with the ability to add and consolidate images and key character information.
  • A bar graph that provides an at-a-glance visual of the attributes.
  • Roughly 50 different classes to choose from, each containing its own trait information.
  • 7 unique character races that vary the power of the character, ranging from mortal Humes to Ancient entities.
