The Order of Ethereal Magi is one half of the peacekeeping force of the Ethereal Plane, presided over by Xeios, in the Clouded Horizons series.

History

The Order of Ethereal Magi was founded soon after the inception of the Ethereal Plane proper by Freya, the other half of the force that was to be the peacekeeping branch for all military matters within the realm. Presided over by Xeios, who holds the title of Executor, the Ethereal Magi train acolytes in manipulating and enhancing the latent magical energy of the realm. Initiates of the order are often hundreds of years old, ancient by mortal standards but still young by the standards of Ethereal or Nether beings.

Rankings

There are six rankings within the Ethereal Magi, each represented visually on a magi's person by a colored sash.

Apprentice

Apprentices within the Order of Ethereal Magi are new initiates to the Order, young and untrained in the ways of magic. They will learn, over roughly the next 150 years, the basics of magic, manipulation, and application, as well as history pertaining to the Ethereal Plane and the Order. Apprentices wear a black sash.

Templar

Templar are those Ethereal beings who have passed the basic tests to truly become a member of the Order. They are now proficient in wielding the innate magic within them, as well as basic manipulation of the latent energy in all realms and beings. Templar wear a green sash.

Vindicator / Judicator

Vindicators are Ethereal beings who have pursued the study of combat and application, making them fierce fighters and skilled mages capable of striking down some of the hardiest warriors. They are masters of their latent abilities and skilled manipulators of the environment and the magical energy within, with some even capable of subtly bending the environs to their will. Vindicators wear a red sash.

Judicators, by contrast, are Ethereal beings who devoted their time to the study of manipulation and knowledge, rather than force. They are often superb healers, understanding the threads of magic on an almost instinctual level, and are skilled at misdirecting and countering offensive magic. Many are also scholars, devoting much of their time to the study of magic in order to better teach further generations of mages within the Order. Judicators wear a blue sash.

Prelate

Prelates are those magi who have attained considerable levels of aptitude in both combat and knowledge. It is here that magi often see the beginnings of grooming for positions as Praetors, as they are those who show the most promise of all. Few reach this rank due to decisions to focus in one area or another, but the ones who do are highly respected and admired within the Order. Prelates wear a purple sash.

Praetor

Praetors could be considered generals of the Ethereal Magi, akin to the Captains of the Order of Grim Angels. Their skills with both manipulation and application are of the highest order of skill, and they serve as commanders in times of extreme conflict, such as during the Great Ethereal War. Praetors wear an orange sash.

Executor

The title of Executor is bestowed upon the leader of the Ethereal Magi - at present, the title belongs to Xeios. They are the undisputed commander of all mages within the Order, and are also an adviser to Lady Freya herself. The Executor wears a gold sash.
