The Soul Plane is one of the three primary planes of the Eighth Realm in the Clouded Horizons series. It serves as a haven for souls after death, as well as a place where Ethereal Plane and Nether Plane beings may go to more quickly replenish their energy if wounded or exhausted.
History
The Soul Plane's history, like the Ethereal and Nether Planes' own, goes back to the beginning of time itself when it was brought into creation by the Eighth Realm's Author, Erasmus. It was created to serve a purpose as the afterlife for souls of all origins, be they mortal, Ethereal, or Nether. For the greater part of its recorded history, this purpose was carried out with little turmoil within the realm itself, the inhabitants of Soul Plane content to remain peaceful and relatively disjointed in contact with the other realms.
This changed for the worse many millenia later, around the 21st century of Gaia's recorded time. Unbeknownst to those in Seireitei, a Planeswalker by the name of Dmitri Yuriev managed to, through a convoluted series of events, use his power to possess the body of Soul Plane's current ruler, the Lord Sovereign Lukälius diVanégo. In this guise, he proceeded to plan and carry out an invasion of the Ethereal Plane in the name of the Overlord of the Nether Plane, Xuvanti Aiden. The invasion was costly for the forces of the Ethereal Plane, with few casualties on Soul Plane's part but also numerous ones on the part of the Nether Plane. Yuriev's spirit was forced out of Lukälius' body upon a confrontation with Freya, and shortly after that Lukälius recalled all forces to the Soul Plane, thereby ending the conflict.

Soul Plane is split up into two main parts, each with their own name. The vast majority of the Soul Plane is called Rukongai, and is the place where most souls rest upon being sent to the realm. The other part, containing far less souls than Rukongai, is called Seireitei, also known as the Court of Pure Souls. This is the haven of the Grim Angels and the Lord Sovereign, and is guarded by a large wall and four gates, each having their own elite guardian to protect it.
