Overview

The O.S.I.R.I.S. Network was developed soon after the founding of Balamb Garden. Originally founded solely as a educational resource system, it was realized that the system could be upgraded to supervise most aspects of Garden.

Usually (and incorrectly) referred to as the Garden Network, the O.S.I.R.I.S. network handles personnel records, mission records, and primary oversight of the security systems in addition to its educational tools.

While these are the primary uses, each Garden is able customize the Network for their specific requirements.

Students and SeeD use the O.S.I.R.I.S. network for, among the many educational uses that it has, as a social networking site, connecting with fellow cadets and SeeD across the world in a relaxed setting. The system allows them to set up journals and plan events outside of the Cadet and SeeD gatherings and missions.

Specifications

The main housing for the O.S.I.R.I.S. Network is located at Balamb Garden. The workload is spread across 250 high-end servers.

Each server at the Balamb location was developed by technicians from the newly founded Fisherman's Horizon, and has since been upgraded to the finest technology available. Each server has a 4.73 THz quad-core processing unit, with 8 PB of system memory. Each server has four storage drives with 500 YB storage capacity.

As it handles data from all three Gardens, the server farm at Balamb Garden is the largest. The servers at Trabia and Esthar Garden are smaller in number (150 and 125 respectively), but with the same specifications.

Access Requirements and Points

The O.S.I.R.I.S. Network can only be accessed at Garden, or by Garden device (such as the Garden Link Device (GLD)). Different access levels are established for un-enlisted personnel, Cadet, SeeD, Instructor, Spec-Ops, and Command Personnel.

Each Garden terminal has ready access to O.S.I.R.I.S. and can access any information assuming that the user's clearance is high enough. Each Garden also has two access points for remote access to other Garden's databases which are restricted.

System Administrators

Each Garden has a chief administrator and has the option of setting up a team to work with them in maintaining the server at their Garden. As of this time, none have elected to do so.
