Biography

"My devotion to Lady Freya and the Ethereal Plane keeps my skills sharp. The duty of my station demands no less."
―Odin, to Arragious Nicholai

Odin's existence can be traced back to the very beginnings of the Ethereal Plane itself - indeed, he was created by Freya Vanadis soon after the plane's own creation, the first and greatest of the race of beings who would come to be known as Erudite. Created to serve as one of Freya's chief advisers alongside his 'brother,' Xeios, Odin would come to be known as the most fearsome combatant in the plane outside of the Creator herself, as well as the founder and leader of the prestigious Gilead Order.

Odin founded the Gilead Order in year 382 of the mortal plane's calendar, deciding after many decades of organization and gathering to solidify their defensive force into something definitively organized and intensely disciplined. Initially, the Gilead Order was but a single organization, but shortly after its inception proper, Odin modified the structure of the Order into several parts - the Gilead Order proper, comprised of many small 'cells' of operatives tasked with keeping the peace within their own walls and gathering internal information; the Order of Ethereal Knights, the branch of the Gilead Order dedicated to physical prowess and martial ability; and the Order of Ethereal Magi, the branch of the Gilead Order dedicated to magical ability and scholarly study. At the same time, he stepped down in his position as the leader of the Order, giving the effective first position of Captain-Commander to an Erudite by the name of Arragious Nicholai.

For centuries, Odin found himself content to lead the Ethereal Knights as their Grand Master, training his soldiers to ever-higher plateaus of power and skill, until events unfolded in the year 1583 which would lead to tragedy in the plane. War erupted between a resistance group opposed both to Freya's apparent lack of leadership capabilities and the relationship developing between Arragious and Destine, the then-liaison between the Gilead Order and Freya herself, and Odin found his troops engaged in a task of the utmost importance as they defended their inner circle. Even Odin could not fight a war himself, however, and the war raged on for centuries, claiming nearly the entirety of the Order of Grim Angels before it ended as well as a substantial number of the soldiers within the Ethereal Knights and Magi. Finally, Odin and his forces were able to quell the majority of the fighting and break the spirit of the resistance, quelling the war, but the damage had been done.

Odin's time for the next few centuries was soon turned to rebuilding all that was lost - physically, mentally, and in terms of manpower. With the Gilead Order disbanded following the exile of its leader, Odin's Ethereal Knights became fully half of the remaining defensive force, and were vastly weakened in power. The Grand Master took great pains to ensure that his troops remained in high spirits during the rebuilding, and things eventually returned to tolerable levels under his careful guidance. Finally, in the year 2152, Odin would find himself once again pitted against unrest in the plane, albeit this time from one of Freya's own - the Pillar of Predestination, Fayt. Alongside Xeios, Liam Bayloh, and Benji Powell, Odin put a stop to Fayt's ambition and returned peace to the place once more...for a time.
